IVS General Meeting 2026

The IVS 14th General Meeting (April 12–17, 2026) was held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, in the scenic Bavarian Alps. Around 130 participants representing 23 countries came together to share updates on IVS activities and plan for the future. Additional meetings included the IVS Analysis Workshop, a VGOS Technical Committee meeting, and an IVS Directing Board meeting.

A particular focus was the connection of earth and space that is uniquely provided by the VLBI technique, which was also reflected in the theme of the General Meeting: “Linking the Celestial and Terrestrial Realms.” The local hosts from Munich and Würzburg created a memorable event, thanks to their excellent organization. A highlight was the cogwheel train ride up the Zugspitze mountain to the Schneefernerhaus, where the IVS Analysis Workshop was held above the clouds, just below the summit of Germany’s highest mountain.

Thank you to all who were able to attend, and especially to the organizing committees and local hosts, for another successful and productive IVS General Meeting. (And thanks to Dirk Behrend and Sergei Bolotin for the excellent photography!)
